LIGHTFINITY

LIGHTFINITY

(WORK IN PROGRESS)

“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there–on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.”

Carl Sagan, 1994. Like life, all events in history have a beginning and an end, but time not, time is invincible, time is infinite. LIGHTFINITY invites us to reflect on the passage of time, on everything that ends but also begins. A continuous flash of light that ends where it begins, always in a loop, where we cannot distinguish its beginning and its end. From the sky you can see a circle of light, symbol of the eternal, but if we look straight ahead, its shape becomes a light band of Möebius, the recognized symbol of infinity. This sculpture of light perches on the landscape with an ambient music that takes us to a state of contemplation that will abstract us to reflect on each passing moment, on the importance of valuing the passage of time and each moment of our life.
